Agosto en Madrid - BiciMad

Hoy os presento un plan algo diferente pero igual de divertido!

Por fin Madrid ha puesto por la ciudad un sistema de bicis de alquiler: BiciMad!

Por sólo 15€ al año puedes alquilar una bici y llevártela a donde quieres...y lo mejor puedes devolverla casi por donde quieras. Hay diferentes paradas donde puedes dejar y recoger la bicicleta.

Yo, por ejemplo, llevo unos días que me voy al Retiro, aparco ahi la bici y luego me cojo otra de vuelta..una gozada!

Además la aplicación del móvil te permite ver donde hay paradas y plazas disponibles.

El único con de bicimad es que solo lo tienen puesto en las zonas turísticas de Madrid.

Pero igualmente, es todo un planazo!

Agosto en Madrid - Cine de verano

Este año, por desgracia, me ha tocado quedarme en Madrid durante el mes de agosto... por suerte, Madrid sigue siendo interesante aun cuando no hay nadie en la ciudad. 

Este en Madrid, Cadiz o Altea, mi verano tiene que incluir un cine de verano. Cuando era pequeña y tocaba quedarse en casa de los abuelos a dormir, mis abuelos siempre me montaban un pequeño cine de verano en casa sacando a la terraza la mega tele, los sofas, las palomitas y ¡listo! Y ahora que soy mayor tengo como MUST del verano pasar si o si por un cine de verano donde pueda ver las estrellas mientras disfruto de una buena película. 

Así que dada mi situación, me puse a buscar y me tope con el cine de verano del Cuartel de Conde Duque, en la calle Conde Duque 9-11 por la zona de Malasaña. Aunque este sitio últimamente se ha hecho famoso por los sing-alongs que hay los viernes, como el de Grease, lo cierto es que hay películas buenísimas y de todos los géneros...eso si, no se repiten! Yo he podido ver no una sino dos pelis de estreno: Begin Again y Chef! Y, por cierto, ambas películas buenísimas así que os las aconsejo por completo. 

Por si eso no fuera suficiente, antes de entrar en el cine tienes unas tiendas ideales y una zona chill out con comida y bebida donde tomar algo bien rico. Todo está cuidado a la perfección! Cada sillita, hamaca, camarero y luz! Además, la comida que hay esta buenísima y ha sido creada por nada más y nada menos que 11 estrellas Michelín que colaboran con el proyecto Cocina Conciencia de la Fundación Raices que ayuda a jóvenes en riesgo de exclusión social volver a ponerse en pie. En fin serafín...que estoy encantada con este cine, zona chill out, mercadito...pero sobretodo, estoy encantada con este experiencia que hace de un solitario agosto en Madrid una época más fácil y divertida!

Happy 2014 - To a year of hope

Here we are again, another year has gone by... 2013 for me has been a year of ups and downs, a year of learning new experiences and discovering new worlds. In 2013, I have loved, laughed, lost and lived to the max! I'm not gonna lie, 2013 was a bitch in maaany ways, which means that 2014 can only be better - cross fingers! 

For this new year I can only hope to improve, to make it big and better. I wish you all the biggest and best year of your lives. Remember that every day that goes by is as unique as every snow flake. Remember that you must smile and be happy for you and others around you. Remember to love, because only when we love we can be truly happy. Finally, remember to hope, because hope is the most powerful thing in this world. 

Forget about being normal, forget about following the rules! Live a little and enjoy the road ahead -don't be scared it doesn't bite! 2014 is the year to take the bull by the horns and give your life a little twist! 

Dear 2014, I invite you to love, laugh, live and hope with me!

Aquí estamos otra vez, otro año que se va...el 2013 ha sido un año un poco rocoso para mi aprendiendo, sintiendo y descubriendo cosas nuevas. El año pasado, amé, reí, perdí y viví al máximo! No os voy a mentir, el 2013 también ha sido un poco puñetero, pero eso solo quiere decir que el 2014 solo puede ir a mejor! 

Para este nuevo año solo puedo mejorar y hacerlo mejor y más grande. Os deseo a todos el mejor y más grande año de vuestras vidas. Recordad que cada día que pasa es tan único como un copo de nieve; que las sonrisas son contagiosas y que sonriendo conseguimos que todos seamos un poquito más felices. Recordad que debéis amar, porque solo amando seréis verdaderamente felices. Finalmente, acordaos de tener esperanza e ilusión, porque la esperanza y la ilusión son las cosas mas poderosas que poseemos. 

Olvidaos de seguir las reglas y la rutina! Vivid experiencias nuevas y disfrutad del camino que se presenta delante vuestro -sin miedo, que el futuro no muerde! El 2014 es el año en el que cogemos el toro por los cuernos y le damos un giro a nuestras vidas!

¡Querido 2014, te invito a amar, reír, vivir y a tener ilusión conmigo!

It's that time again, time to say goodbye to yet another beautiful city and its amazing people. It's time to close another episode of my life. 

To write my last post here I have come to the center of culture and history: Sultanahmet, the place where both Islam and Christianity come together and life in peace in the form of the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia and the place from where you can see Europe and Asia separated by a body of water called the Bosphorus. 

So I'm seating here seeing the sun set before me and, accidentally Pearl Harbor's theme song starts on my iPod...so opportune to set the mood!

I don't like saying goodbyes. This year alone I have had to say goodbyes to two people I very much love and it has become a word I have come to hate. Goodbye...that implies not ever seeing you again, which doesn't seem appropriate since I know I will come back one day. I have to, because I have to see all the people I'm leaving behind, because I have to go shopping in the bazaar and I have to eat the real kofte -they don't make those meatballs and that eggplant salad anywhere else! And also, because I have to see my front door neighbor again –he always made my mornings better. 

But until I come back, I can tell you I will miss you all. I will also miss the smell of the corn cooking that is in every street, the prayer at 5am that wakes up even the deepest sleapers. I will miss waking up to the Bosphorus every day -I always smile when I see the water and my problems seem to swim away. I won't miss so much those strong jaegermeister shots from Tektekçi, but I will miss the company with whom I drank them. I will miss the amazing roof terraces with a view of the entire city. And the after lunch super-hot 80ºC çay under the 35ºC Sun (somehow I have gotten used to that).

I will miss my morning bagel, the Bosphorus bridge lights and the amazing feeling of freedom and empowerment of the young people of Istanbul from the Saturday protests that are always accompanied by a liiiittle teargas! 

I can keep going with a thousand more things I will miss, but I wouldn't shut up.

I have loved my time here, this entire summer; the 9 weeks I have been here...they have gone by so fast!! It feels like it's still the beginning of July and learning how to say Merhaba or Teṣekkürler... Although to be honest, I have only learned around 15 words, but apparently that’s enough to handle myself in the city of contrasts. I can now go up streets that before I couldn't even look at (streets in my area of Istanbul are veeeery steep...very!! In that sense Istanbul has nothing to envy of San Francisco). 

I could go on forever. But I won't, because, like I said, I will come back, so it's only appropriate to say:

ISTANBUL...Prince Islands

This weekend I had the opportunity of going to the Prince Islands. Centuries ago, princes and royalty were exiled to these islands, but now, the islands are the perfect destination for the rich and tourist to go to in the weekends. There are 9 islands, but only the biggest 4 are accessible from the mainland. I went to the biggest one, Büyükada, which literally means "Big Island". 

The island is beautiful, the perfect mix of luxury!! It has mountains, woods, ports and beach...even the abandoned houses look beautiful. I got there after a 30 minute trip by boat and the first thing I did was rent my bike (15 TRY for the whole day). There are no cars allowed on the island, so if you wanna move around the island you have to walk, rent a bike or take a carriage. 

The first thing I did, which is the first must-do on the islands, was go up the mountain to see an orthodox church that has the most amazing views. What I didn't know was that it would take me 2 hours to go up the mountain...carrying my bike most of the time and sweating like a pig. Thankfully, everyone had done what I had, and was sweating their way slowly to the top while carrying their bikes.

 

The view from the top really was worth the trip. I could see the entire island, Istanbul and the other smaller islands from the top. It was the kind of place that makes you want to scream like Leo DiCaprio in Titanic: "I AM THE KING OF THE WORLD!!".

My next stop was another of the must-haves of the island: a beach!! There are around 4 pretty good beaches, but for what I could read 3 of the 4 are private. I went to a private one, 15TRY for entering the beach and a hammock...which is pretty cool. I stayed there for around 3-4 hours, relaxing and tanning...or rather, getting burned. The beach wasn't even half full and you could see boats crossing by right in front of you, so it was great! I definitely want to go back, but better prepared next time...with a lot of protection!!

At around 5, after I was completely burned, I left the beach to do the 3rd must-do, visit the little town. Very simple and charming town, with little stores and restaurants. The ice cream carts are all around, the men that serve the ice cream are dressed in the typical hat while and vest, while they work on the ice cream. Turkish ice cream is not like the one we know. It is harder and has a chewy ingredient that makes it much more consistent. It's delicious! Of course, the island also has an Starbucks and a few very cute restaurant in the marina. 

Reglas del veranito!

El mes de agosto por fin nos ha invadido. Lo que quiere decir que nuestra capital se convierte en desierto y las playas se atiborran de guiris que se ponen como cangrejitos. El veranin empieza ahora y os quiero dar unas cuantas pautas (no necesarias, realmente, ya que como buenos españoles, sabemos aprovechar muuuy bien el verano). Igualmente, os dejo unos cuantos consejitos: 

1. El numero 1 de mi lista siempre es: PONTE CREMA Y PONTE MORENITA*!! Los guiris que invaden nuestras playas acaban cangrejos después de un día de playita. Yo, aunque soy española de pura cepa, reconozco que también me tiendo a poner cangreja, asique siempre llevo un bote de protección total en el bolso, por si acaso.
2. Tomaros un rico tinto de verano mientras tomáis el sol en la playa o en la pisci. Después de ese tinto de verano, pegaros un buen baño, y poneros otro riquísimo tinto**…y –como las natillas danone, REPETIMOS!! 
3. Por mucho que me guste el hacerme la seta en la hamaca –o quedarme cual tronco en la hamaca, no viene nada mal levantarse y hacer algo de deporte. Aprovecha para jugar un partidito de pádel con los amigos o para montar un castillo de arena con los primos pequeños. 
4. Hazte un viaje con tus amigos en coche. Asegúrate de ir a la compra antes de embarcar y comprar mucho tinto de verano***. Id a alguna playa lejos o cerca o aun ciudad nueva o a algún rincón mágico y escondido del planeta!
5. Pasa tiempo con la familia! (no hace falta decir más!) 
6. Ve a un cine de verano! Esto es una de mis reglas de verano…cada verano hay que ir a un cine al aire libre o a un cine de coches (también al aire libre) a ver un peliculón! Si no quieres que los mosquito te coman vivo, llévate el repelente de mosquitos… 
7. Tomate una horchata bien fría! Mi abuelo era adicto a la horchata y, como buena amante de la comida española, me lo ha pegado. Prueba 1000 horchatas, hasta que encuentres la mejor de todas. 
8. Haz barbacoas en casa!! Otra de mis reglas de oro!! No hay nada mejor que reunir amigos y/o familia, y que mejor que hacerlo con una rica barbacoa. Y si eres listo solo tendrás que poner la casa y la barbacoa…ya lo de cocinar que lo hagan los demas!! 
9. Cómprate ropa nueva!! No hay mejor sensación que estrenar ropa nueva, y si es ropa de verano mejor que mejor! Ah! Algo mas: ¡QUEDA TERMINANTEMENTE PROHIBIDO COMPRAR ROPA DE TRABAJO! 
10. Pégate una siesta de esas de 4 horas. 
11. Sal de fieshta, dalo todo y termina la noche en la playa viendo el amanecer. Es opcional, pero si quieres, puedes pasar por el Macas antes de ir a la playa! A las 6-7 de la mañana nada sabe mejor que una Big Mac (bueno, o la tortilla de mama…pero en mi casa eso se agota rápido). 
12. Haz mil y una fotos con cámara y mentales. Las fotos mentales son aquellas que te guardas con la mente para toda la vida y a las que acudes en los momentos de aburrimiento, desesperación o agotamiento. 
13. Hakuna matata!! Estas de vacaciones, asique vive y deja vivir!! 
14. Juega al continental con la family! La tradición absoluta y actividad obligatoria post-siesta de mi familia es jugar al continental. Si no sabes jugar…y jugar BIEN, capaces somos de despojarte del apellido familiar! Hay que jugar para matar…creedme, en este juego te lo pasas mejor cuanto mas te motivas! 
15. Prepara (o que te preparen) una buena paellita! 

Hay mil y una reglas mas…pero os dejo que las descubráis vosotros!! FELIZ VERANO!! 

PD: acordaos de: viajar, vivir, amar, llorar, bailar, cantar, reir y disfrutar!!!


*Queda bonito estar morena…pero no negraca!! Asique no os motivéis mucho con el sol…que hay que compatir! 
**El tinto de verano puede ser sustituido por: sangría, cervecita freshquita o un buen combinado. Es un requisito obligatorio que haya alcohol y hielo en la bebida. 
***OJO!! En mi ultimo viaje en coche con amigos cometimos el error y despiste de comprar tinto de verano LIGHT Y SIN ALCOHOL. A día de hoy, las botellas siguen abandonadas en el maletero de algún coche… 

Next stop: Istanbul

I finally have my plane tickets for my awesome summer adventure. In a few days, I am leaving Madrid to spend the next two months getting lost in one of the most important cities in history: ISTANBUL! Usually, my summer adventures take me to European or American cities, but this time I get to cross over into an entirely different culture. You cannot imagine how much I want to be there right now!!

I am going to spend 2 months in the Gran Bazaar, smoking hookah, eating kebabs and visiting the Hagia Sophia. Even though the capital of Turkey is Ankara, Istanbul is the biggest city in the country and the third most populated in Europe. Something else that really cool, with the blink of an eye, I can go from Europe to Asia and viceversa, whenever I want!! 

I have my list of To-do's and To-see's and my luggage is aaalmost ready for my little adventure!!

Ya tengo mi billete para mi aventura veraniega!! En unos días, me voy para pasar un par de meses en una de las ciudades históricas mas importantes y alucinantes del mundo: ESTAMBUL! Normalmente, mis aventuras veraniegas consisten en visitar ciudades europeas o americanas, pero esta vez me toca cruzar a otra cultura completamente diferente y como podéis imaginar me muuuero de ganas!! 

Voy a pasar dos meses negociando en el Gran Bazar, fumando cachimba, comiendo kebab y visitando algunos de los lugares mas importantes del mundo. Aunque la capital de Turquía es Ankara, Estambul es la ciudad mas grande del país y la tercera más poblada de Europa. Otra cosa súper chula es que, casi sin quererlo, voy a poder pasar de Europa a Asia, y viceversa, cuando quiera!! Ya tengo la lista de cosas que quiero ver, comer y hacer y la maleta casi casi esta terminada!!

Rainy flowers

It's that time of the year again and Easter is finally here!! Which, also, means spring time! It's flower season, and the streets are covered in colors and beautiful smells. And this year my Easter plans are : beach, Jacuzzi, reading and painting! With some luck, I'll be able to finish my painting before the week's over. 

¡Es esa época del año otra vez y por fin comienza la Semana Santa! Lo que también quiere decir: ¡la primavera! La época de las flores, los colores y los preciosos olores. Este año mis planes de la SS son: playita, jacuzzi, leer y pintar! Con un poco de suerte, quizás pueda acabar mi cuadro antes de acabar la semanita.

Post-Christmas syndrome

Our two short weeks of well-deserved holidays with friends and family are over, which means it's time to go back to our routines, and what is worse, it is time to go back to studying, working and post-Christmas dieting. After those incredible Christmas lunches and diners, all that wine, champagne and extra tequila shots we have to go back to our normal days again. Sleeping in and spending the afternoons shopping are no longer possible...

But, don't bring yourself down just yet! Holidays might be over but a new year has just started, new opportunities arise and new adventures are ahead. Something tells me 2013 will be great! 

HAPPY 2013!

¡Se acabaron las vacaciones! Después de dos semanitas de vacaciones bien merecidas y amortizadas con la familia y amigos, toca volver a la rutina y lo que es peor, toca volver al trabajo, al estudio y a las dietas post-navideñas. Se acabaron las comidas y cenas copiosas de Navidad, los churros con chocolate de San Ginés y las copitas de vino, el champagne de las campanadas, el tequila de Nochevieja y los magníficos Gin Tonics de las copas con los amigos. Se acabó el dormir hasta las 2 de la tarde y pasarse la tarde de compritas navideñas por Madrid...

Pero, ¡que eso no nos hunda! Puede que se hayan terminado las vacaciones pero ha comenzado un año nuevo, se abren nuevas oportunidades y nacen nuevas aventuras. ¡Algo me dice que el 2013 será un grandisimo año!

New year, new style!

For the year 2013, Building Llops is going to change a little bit. It's time to innovate, improve and grow, and Building Llops has never been one to hold back. One of the changes I have already started to do is to write in both English and Spanish... after all, what's the use of being bilingual if I don't make use of my gift. 

The second important change to the To-do List is to write more often and to do that I have to change and include more topics. A new topic I am going to include is stories. I am specially happy about this change because it's something I have wanted to do for some time now and I have finally gotten around to do. Friends and friends of friends have written stories for Building Llops. Their stories speak from the heart and they include a variety of topics. from loves, betrays, adventures, pains and happy moments. We all have a story to tell!

Some more topics I will include this year are:

• Technology: a good friend of mine told me to put some tech into the blog and I didn't think it was a bad idea, specially because we are all obsessed with technology. 
• More news about current events, people and companies doing amazing things worth writing about
• I love interior design and architecture so I might even include a few posts on that
• Another change that I already do, but I want to include more of, are the news about things that inspire me and make us happy, news that make us smile...the kind of news that make you say "ooooh how cute!" as soon as you start reading them
• Since I love food...who doesn't...every now and then, I will post a delicious recipe. Most importantly, I will post a EASY recipe, because we all know our generation is not very gifted when it comes to cooking. So the recipes will be so easy you might even be able to do them with your eyes closed. 

As the year goes on, my intention is to improve the blog and I would love to have you guys help me out with whatever you think would be fun and awesome to know. Thank you!

Happy 2013!

En este año 2013, Building Llops va a dar un pequeño giro. Con el año nuevo toca innovar, mejorar y crecer y Building Llops no tiene la costumbre de quedarse atrás. Uno de los cambios que ya he empezado a meter es que ahora escribo en inglés y en español... después de todo, de que me sirve ser bilingüe si no hago uso de mis idiomas. 

El segundo cambio importante en mi lista de mejoras es escribir más a menudo y para ello tengo que cambiar y incluir nuevos temas. Un cambio nuevo que voy a añadir y que me apetece mucho hacer es que a partir de este mes añadiré historias de amigos y conocidos. Las escriben ellos y son sus cuentos, sus vidas y sus sueños puestos a palabras. Sus historias son sobre muchas cosas: amor, dolor, amistad, traición, aventuras...Es el cambio que mas me apetece para este nuevo año. Todos tenemos una historia que contar!

Un amigo me propuso que metiese un poco de tecnología y no me pareció mala idea, sobretodo, porque a día de hoy todo el mundo esta obsesionado con ella. Otro tema que quiero incluir mas noticias de actualidad, de eventos, empresas y personas interesantes que hacen cosas que merecen ser contadas. Me encanta el diseño y la arquitectura así que puede que hasta incluya alguna que otra entrada sobre ello. Otra cosita que ya hago y que ahora quiero hacer mas es incluir noticias sobre cosas que alegran el día a cualquiera, que inspiran y que enamoran al alma...noticias cursis de esas que me encantan. Como me encanta la cocina y, aunque estoy a dieta post-navidad, publicaré de vez en cuando recetas súper ricas; pero sobretodo, recetas que sean fáciles porque nuestra generación no tiene la costumbre de cocinar mucho así que las recetas serán de esas que se pueden hacer casi con los ojos cerrados. 

A medida que avanza el año iré mejorando el blog y me encantaría que vosotros me ayudaseis con lo que penséis que puede ser chulo y divertido. ¡Gracias!

Everything is ready! I have my 12 grapes and the table is set for tonight's family diner. Only a few more hours to finish 2012 ans start 2013. I can't wait to start a new year of adventures. Start to think about your 12 wishes. Start to write down your new year's resolutions! 2013 is going to be awesome!! 

Happy...almost...NEW YEAR!!

¡Todo está listo! Ya tengo mis uvas contadas y la mesa está lista y preparada para la cenita familiar. Ya sólo quedan unas horitas para terminar el 2012 y empezar el 2013. Que ganas de empezar de nuevo. Empezad a pensar vuestros 12 deseos para el 2013. Haced la lista de propósitos a cumplir que el 2013 promete!!!

Casi casi...¡FELIZ AÑO 2013!
