NIKE-fuel map

To encourage walking instead of using the subway, NIKE has redesigned the city of London to see the distance between stops. I will be going to London soon...who knows, maybe I try walking!

Crazy about...Conflict Kitchen

Conflict Kitchen is a NYC restaurant that only serves food from countries with which the US is in conflict. Every few months, they change their design and menu to adapt to the new conflict in hand. Their current theme is Cuba. Their idea is to raise awareness about the issues currently happening with the nations they represent. I love this idea. Design, food and politics all in one! What else can you ask for? Maybe that they open a Conflict Kitchen here in Madrid?

Rubbish Art

A few months ago I showed you a piece of art by Wang Zhiyuan (see here). Zhiyuan turned trash into art. Today I ran across something similar. Ian Stevenson has done something similar to what I showed you, but instead of making sculptures, he wrote messages in the garbage. He calls it "Rubbish Art" and he describes it as "bringing rubbish to life and making it talk back".

Check it out!

Words come to life

Graphic designer Arun Raj has created these illustrations showing words that also visualize what they mean...I know it sounds weird, but it looks awesome!

I want one!

"Live Knitting" by NIKE

If you really want to see what a new product is made of, why not see it! NIKE China has come up with a great advertisement. Instead of putting up a billboard with foot and a NIKE shoe, they put up a photo of a foot, which they later dressed up with the same material their new product has. The idea was to demonstrate the uniqueness of its Nike Free Flyknit technology that feels like a sock but it's actually a shoe.
Sounds like a great way of proving the awesomeness of its product!

Just Do It -- Possibilities

I love ads that make you want to push harder and challenge yourself and NIKE does it just right. Why don't you outrun a superstar or beat Selena Williams...JUST DO IT!

IE Time

After a summer of Istanbul, work, fun and a little bit of beach time, it's time to go back to studying except now I am going into the big leagues. It is goodbye college and hello IE business school. I am super scared for what's about to begin but I'm also super excited.

One of the great things I am most excited about is meeting all the people I'm going to be sharing this year with. More than 30 nationalities will be in my class and in my city. Going to class will feel like traveling to some remote part of the planet, only to come back home to sleep. Quite the unique experience. Today is my first day and I'm off to Segovia for the Opening Ceremony.

Wish me luck!

legs or hot dogs?

We have all seen the photos of people posting their feet in Instagram. Now, a new trend has been born: taking pictures of your legs…except your legs aren’t legs, but rather sausages. I know, it sounds gross, weird and veeery geeky…to think that someone spends time on actually getting those sausages to take a simple picture…But it is actually really cool. I started looking at some of the photos and it becomes harder and harder to differentiate legs from sausages.
Which one are real?!

Vaya lio…

See you next week!!

See you later, Istanbul!

It's that time again, time to say goodbye to yet another beautiful city and its amazing people. It's time to close another episode of my life.

To write my last post here I have come to the center of culture and history: Sultanahmet, the place where both Islam and Christianity come together and life in peace in the form of the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia and the place from where you can see Europe and Asia separated by a body of water called the Bosphorus.

So I'm seating here seeing the sun set before me and, accidentally Pearl Harbor's theme song starts on my iPod...so opportune to set the mood!

I don't like saying goodbyes. This year alone I have had to say goodbyes to two people I very much love and it has become a word I have come to hate. Goodbye...that implies not ever seeing you again, which doesn't seem appropriate since I know I will come back one day. I have to, because I have to see all the people I'm leaving behind, because I have to go shopping in the bazaar and I have to eat the real kofte -they don't make those meatballs and that eggplant salad anywhere else! And also, because I have to see my front door neighbor again –he always made my mornings better.

But until I come back, I can tell you I will miss you all. I will also miss the smell of the corn cooking that is in every street, the prayer at 5am that wakes up even the deepest sleapers. I will miss waking up to the Bosphorus every day -I always smile when I see the water and my problems seem to swim away. I won't miss so much those strong jaegermeister shots from Tektekçi, but I will miss the company with whom I drank them. I will miss the amazing roof terraces with a view of the entire city. And the after lunch super-hot 80ºC çay under the 35ºC Sun (somehow I have gotten used to that).

I will miss my morning bagel, the Bosphorus bridge lights and the amazing feeling of freedom and empowerment of the young people of Istanbul from the Saturday protests that are always accompanied by a liiiittle teargas!

I can keep going with a thousand more things I will miss, but I wouldn't shut up.

I have loved my time here, this entire summer; the 9 weeks I have been here...they have gone by so fast!! It feels like it's still the beginning of July and learning how to say Merhaba or Teṣekkürler... Although to be honest, I have only learned around 15 words, but apparently that’s enough to handle myself in the city of contrasts. I can now go up streets that before I couldn't even look at (streets in my area of Istanbul are veeeery steep...very!! In that sense Istanbul has nothing to envy of San Francisco).

I could go on forever. But I won't, because, like I said, I will come back, so it's only appropriate to say:

See you later, alligator! And, before I forget, thank you to all of you for making my summer so great!

If brands were Angry birds

Those of you who know me well know that I am a complete geek when it comes to Angry Birds. I know where all the eggs are and the tricks…anything and everything. It took me getting hooked to Candy Crush to stop playing Angry Birds. So you can imagine how exited I was when I saw Yakushev Grigory idea: putting together the most famous birds and pigs in the virtual world with the most famous brands in the real world. The perfect fusion!
My personal favorite is the Starbucks one…yours?
